Elmer the Elephant Masks

This week we have been reading stories about Elmer the patchwork elephant. We made these amazing elephant masks to remind us of the story. All our patchwork elephants are different just like us! We are an amazing part of God's creation.

Fine Motor Skills

This week at Explore Time we have used the tongs and the sparkly materials to make patterns. Its tricky making the tongs work to pick up the beads. It helps us with our fine motor control for holding a pencil.

E is for Electronics!

One of our alphabet letters this week is "e". We loved having a turn with the Brain Box electronics kits. Thank you to the Mums and Dads who helped us make them work!

Our new TV's

We have finally got the cords we needed to make our televisions work. It was very exciting to see things on a big screen rather than Miss Smith or Mrs Phillips' laptop.

Name writing

Luke and Hugo used the play dough to make their names.

Aren't they clever!

Congratulations!

Today in Junior Chapel we celebrated with: Jade, Brandon, Charlotte, Lawrence, Lachie and Abbie who all got certificates for their amazing work in Rooms A and B. Well done!

Explore Time

In the mornings we have Explore Time. We love being able to choose an activity.

Germs, germs, everywhere!!

Today we talked about why we need to wash our hands. To show what happens if one person doesn't remember to wash their hands, we used glitter and hand sanitiser.

We all put hand sanitiser on our hands and then Miss Smith and Mrs Phillips added glitter to their hands. We all shook hands and the glitter was spread - just like germs!

At the end we made sure we washed our hands properly!

Washing Our Hands

This week we are learning about the importance of washing our hands properly. Today we all had a turn washing our hands with the teacher. Then we wrote about when we need to wash our hands - after the toilet or before eating or when they are dirty.

Greedy Cat Modelling

This week we are reading a book called "Greedy Cat is Hungry". Today some of us modelled Greedy Cat out of plasticene and some of the food he likes to gobble, gobble, gobble!

P is for Pikelets!

We made pikelets to help us remember the letter "p". Emily's mum helped us. We liked helping to mix the bowl. The best bit was eating them with raspberry jam!

News

Today we had news. We like sharing about our special things!

Amazing Handwriting

Today we wrote the letter "a" in our handwriting books. Everyone was very careful and Mrs Phillips was very proud of our work. Well done.

Welcome to the 2014 School Year

Today we had a special powhiri to welcome all the new children and teachers to our school this year. Then we shared morning tea together. We enjoyed sitting with the big children.

Lining up with our chairs.

All the children and staff who were at ACS last year, sat in our normal spot.

Mrs Nareki welcomed the new staff and pupils to ACS.

Mr Richardson welcomed the new people.

Then the existing staff and students sang a song of welcome.

Mr Ferguson spoke on behalf of the new people.

And then they sang too.

Mr Richardson, Mrs Lawn, Mrs Phillips and Mrs Nareki welcomed each person individually.

Then it was time to share morning tea together.

Yum! Yum!

Now we are all part of the ACS community.
